February 2013 President's Message
We are flying through the second month of the year, February, the “love month.” Let’s speak from the heart. Who do we love?? Our clients—yes. Our employees—yes. Our lawyers, CPAs, financial planners, bankers—yes to all, because they all help make our businesses alive, well, and healthy. Here at NAWBO-SA, we love our members, corporate partners, and executive member partners because they are the ones who support NAWBO and make it possible. As president of this organization, I love my Board of Directors—for without them, there would be no NAWBO-SA. I am thankful for their support, belief, encouragement, and yes, love. Above and beyond these people are our spouses and families who support and love us through it all—the ups, the downs. I thank God above all, for the opportunity to serve this organization, its members and partners. Without love, none of this would be possible. It takes love to create, nurture, and bring to fruition something that has value and worth to so many.
It is with great respect and much love that I introduce you to the NAWBO member who we are spotlighting this month, Elise Cox, owner of Ad Graphics and NAWBO’s Director of Corporate Partner Relations. Elise is a long-time supporter of NAWBO-SA. I honestly do not know what I would have done without her support these past two years. Please check out her profile and let her know how much you appreciate all she has done for this organization.
It is with great admiration and much appreciation that I introduce you to the NAWBO Corporate Partner who we are spotlighting this month: Wells Fargo Bank. Annie Turner, Katherine Howe-Frilot, and many of the associates at Wells Fargo Bank are huge supporters of NAWBO-SA. They continue to play an active role in both the Entrepreneurial Spirit Awards and our Fostering the Entrepreneurial Dream programs.
If you have not secured your seat for the upcoming Entrepreneurial Spirit Awards (ESA) Gala on March 20 , what are you waiting for? The ESA Gala is going to be an evening filled with honoring six women business owners for their ingenuity, excellence, and commitment to greatness within our community. Additionally, over $20,000 in scholarships will be given out to future entrepreneurs through NAWBO-SA’s Entrepreneurial Connections—Fostering the Entrepreneurial Dream teen mentoring program. The evening will be filled with opportunities to meet the best women entrepreneurs in our community, while supporting our future entrepreneurs. The ESA Committee has been busy gathering awesome items for the silent auction. Bring your checkbooks and be prepared to support our teen mentoring scholarship fund by bidding on a number of fabulous items. And back by popular demand will be an Evening in an Audi that includes dinner for two auctioned off live during the dinner break. Rick Cavender and Cavender Audi have donated this item in support of our Fostering the Entrepreneurial Dream program. Stay tuned for an upcoming “sneak peak” of the silent auction items. We look forward to seeing you at the Gala.
Do you or anyone you know, have aspirations of running for a public office of any kind? Join us at this month’s Women Mean Business luncheon at the Petroleum Club on February 28. We are featuring some of San Antonio’s prominent women elected officials. They will tell their success stories and reveal the challenges that befell them while on their journeys into public office. Definitely a meeting not to miss.
