September 2015 President's Message
Many thanks to our Legislative Alliance Partner – National Federation of Business – Texas (NFIB)!
As Annie Spilman, NFIB Texas Legislative Director stated at our August 27 Women Mean Business Luncheon, “All of the bills NFIB opposed this season died”.
This is one of the many reasons it pays to be a NAWBO-San Antonio member. The education we receive at our monthly luncheons is invaluable to all women business owners.
During this Public Policy luncheon we learned:
*2.6 billion in total tax relief for Texas Businesses
*Twelve minimum wage bills were filed – all twelve died because of NFIB’s strong opposition
- Defeated mandated minimum wage hikes
*All eight bills were filed specifically dealing with wage claims – all eight died
- Defeated wage claim expansion against employers
*Seven bills filed relating to Workers Comp negatively affecting employers – all seven died
- Defeated attempts to mandate Workers Comp Insurance Coverage
Thank you NFIB-Texas for these statistics and big wins on behalf of all small business owners.
Enhance your local membership even more by attending the National Women’s Business Conference this September 27 -29 at the Marriot Rivercenter. Our city and chapter are proud and honored to host this year’s conference.
Now is the time to become a member and participate in this informative conference focusing on providing women business owners with opportunities to achieve their goals.
Together we will Connect, Lead, and Inspire…
