4,000 Years and Counting:  The History of Water in San Antonio

San Antonio has a long and colorful history of water and wastewater management that is unique to the world.  This program will draw from Gregg Eckhardt's extensive archive of historical and rare documents to illustrate how water has been the key element in San Antonio's transformation from a center of indigenous cultures to a Spanish colonial outpost to a world leader in water resource management and development.

Gregg Eckhardt is an environmental scientist with 27 years of experience in environmental modeling and analysis, water resource planning and development, state and federal permitting, and water treatment.  He is the Nerd King of south Texas water history.  As Senior Analyst for the San Antonio Water System he is involved in the planning, operations, and management of the city's water supply and wastewater systems.  He serves on numerous city and state level boards and committees related to environmental research and education, such as the state of Texas’ Expert Science Team for Environmental Flows in the San Antonio River, and he is Chairman of the Alamo Community College District Water Resource Management Advisory Board.
